It is a much darker Odd Thomas novel than the others, and the last one (Odd Hours) was pretty shadowy. This ebook takes place over a day at an estate in California. It's a couple days later than the events in Odd Hours, a degree Odd makes a few times. Annamaria is again, you recognize the pregnant, enigmatic lady from Odd Hours. She continues to be enigmatic, and although she has a strong part, it's a small one. Boo, the ghost dog is also back, however he is with Annamaria a lot of the time.
The girl astride the ghostly mount reaches out desperately, the latest spirit to enlist assistance from Odd Thomas, the unassuming young fry cook whose reward-or curse-it is to see the shades of the stressed dead, and to assist them when he can.
